Four Weeks in Europe: Painting, Exploring, and Teaching

This summer, Sarah B Hansen spent four unforgettable weeks abroad in Spain, Italy, and Croatia…a true gift. Here is bit of the story—

“The trip began with a generous invitation to an artist residency on Spain’s southeastern coast, where we painted, hiked, and explored orange grove-lined roads and abandoned stone structures rich with history.

Next, I flew to Trieste, Italy, for a few days of sightseeing, including a visit to Miramare Castle. Then it was on to Rovinj, Croatia, where I taught a watercolor workshop with Winslow Art Center. My six amazing students and I spent a week painting, walking the seaside, enjoying the town, and sharing wine and lessons on our hotel terrace.

After the workshop, a friend and I extended our trip through the Istrian Peninsula, Krk Island, and along the Dalmatian Coast—hiking, painting, and soaking in the culture and natural beauty. One favorite moment: painting by the sea in a quiet village near Trogir, the air filled with the scent of the sea and the sounds of life in Croatia.

This trip reminded me how much history, pride, and beauty lives in every corner of the Mediterranean.
