Ingrid Lustig
Ingrid Lustig‘s paintings express her place in the world, through landscape, animals and the inner life. Having lived in the High Desert of Oregon for many years she looks to this seemingly simple yet truly complex landscape for the foundation of her work.
“My paintings are about open space, the natural world, the subconscious and archetypes,
portals, and joy. The images of animals in my work are my way of honoring their presence, beauty and power on the planet as well as in our lives.”
Ingrid often integrates geometric shapes with natural shapes to symbolize human presence. To her, geometric shapes symbolize the human mind, which are in juxtaposition to organic forms in nature. Rectangles in her work can symbolize portals into the unknown.
“Most importantly, I love the tangible feel and look of paint as it is smeared, brushed and built up across a surface. Painting is an intimate act of connection with the intangible.”
Not content to realistically depict a landscape or animal, Ingrid wants to push the image beyond the familiar into something altered. This way she’s able to challenge herself and push into a creative space that will take her, and hopefully the viewer, to a new experience.
