Artist and curator, Marlene Alexander, who has been teaching art to children in Central Oregon for over 40 years, was recently chosen as best Children’s Art Teacher by Bend Nest: A Parenting Magazine.

Marlene happened upon a book written for the Museum of Modern Art in New York on teaching art to kids. The author taught at the Museum and after contacting her, Marlene flew to New York and met with her every day for six days. The information she gleaned became the foundation of Marlene’s program.

The ages of the kids she teaches vary every year. They do art history, clay, glass fusing, drawing, painting, jewelry, and a little of everything. Her classes are about teaching kids to express themselves through art and less about technique. Currently there are no openings, but if interested for the future contact Marlene.
