Adell Shetterly‘s monoprint Timeworn, and Judy Hoiness’, mixed media painting Mountains: Keeper of Secrets #3, were chosen by the Art in the West exhibition curators to be highlighted in a feature in the July issue of American Art Collector. High Desert Museum‘s annual invitational juried exhibit Art in the West, opened July 20 and culminates during a Closing Party, September 20. The art is available through the silent auction and can be strolled through at the museum. Artworks by Anne Gibson, Sarah B. Hansen, Susan Luckey Higdon, Mollie Jurgenson, and Dee McBrien-Lee are also in the exhibit.

Tumalo Lavendar Plein Air by Sarah B Hansen

Sarah B. Hansen was awarded Honorable Mention for her submitted painting, Tumalo Lavender Plein Air, in this year’s annual NW Lavender Paint-Out, presented by the Willamette Valley Lavender Festival and the Plein Air Art Show.

A snapshot of what goes into judging art for awards: This year’s juror for the Lavender Paint-Out, David Kinker, chose the above art (and others), based mostly upon these artistic principles—a good separation and full use of value; mindful application of complementary colors in areas of similar value; use of both soft and hard edges; lights painted into darks as well as darks into lights.
