The Vortex — Anne Gibson

Potholes like these are formed when strong currents cause a boulder to move in a vortex, called a “kolk” in Dutch. Over time bowls are carved, sometimes with a rock still in them, which may eventually spin all the way through. These passageways were believed by druids to have purifying and healing properties – particularly the ones that were large enough for a person to pass through. There are many places along the Deschutes where you can find these intriguing formations.
This acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas has painted edges, and is wired and ready to hang.
