Ravens are all about duality, that contrast between light and shadow, wisdom and death. In folklore, they are considered shape-shifters, symbolizing our desire to be imaginatively creative. In this painting, I was inspired to depict a raven in one of their other known roles, that of a messenger between the living and the spiritual realm.
