“Cascade Mountain Afternoon in October” was started onsite, en plein air in an effort to capture the actual feeling of size of the South Sister from the meadow above Sparks Lake. So late in the season, and before the first snowfall, the grass is golden and dry and the most interesting thing about painting the mountain is the color of the rock, which moves from purple, to ochre and reds, and a muted green.
