Sarah’s mixed media work is composed from her experiences as an outdoor explorer. She creates a story for each landscape by applying layered texture into a wet gesso base on a birch panel. Stories unfold through elements of collage, imprints of foliage and circles, and/or scripted lyrics. Collaged papers represent clouds, trees, rocks or other natural forms. Circles represent area bird songs.
“I find it necessary to use more than just my paint and a paintbrush to describe my connection to nature. In using a textural base of collage and imprinted foliage as well as other impressions, I can deepen the connection between the viewer and the landscape.”
