Alisa Huntley
Alisa Huntley chases beauty with her camera and paintbrush. A painter who creates works in oils on aluminum and copper, she loves to explore nature. For Alisa, making art is an adventure. Playing with the paint and experimenting with materials to create works that share her wonderment, her awe and delight for the natural world communicate at a deep level through her artwork.
Alisa received a Bachelor of Arts degree from California Polytechnic state University at San Luis Obispo, CA. Her art education has been a self-directed process of discovery and learning from fellow artists, colleges, and workshops. Her works are collected locally, nationally and internationally.
ABOUT THE PROCESS
A continual process of experimentation and a search for reflective qualities led Alisa to the discovery of aluminum and copper as the backdrop for her paintings. She stumbled upon copper as a substrate while researching aluminum, finding that the use of copper has a long history in the art world. During the renaissance copper plates were readily available and used instead of canvas. Many master painters such as El Greco, and Rembrandt produced their paintings on copper plates.
Alisa’s process is much like a watercolorists. She applies the oil on metal in transparent layers and plan’s her composition to allow some of the aluminum and copper passages to peak through similar to the white of the watercolor paper. As the paint flows and spreads spontaneous drips are interpreted into the composition. The aluminum and copper each provide a different feeling and color and both offer an exciting, modern aesthetic and jewel-like glow.
