Katherine Taylor’s painting was a winner of March’s online Light, Space & Time Gallery’s Figurative competition. She placed First from 455 entries from around the world.
“I always paint the subject matter that most relates to my current state of mind. Consciousness Arising is a painting that came about when I noticed that I seemed to have made a sudden spiritual jump along the way. And it allowed me to notice that others around me had as well.
I wanted to paint a testament of my experience; this man’s direct engagement with the viewer is the result. The difference in the model’s eye color was one way I chose to express ‘awakening.’ The background was painted intuitively with what we call happy mistakes that I let remain without adjustment. The painting wanted to be what it wanted to be.”
