Up in the mountains on a gray autumn day with intermittent rain, the colors are saturated. Huckleberry bushes show their glory with their roots in the marsh, and the ragged pine trees stand guard. Nearby a river flows, ice cold. There were very few people around that day, just a a few fishermen and hunters. I’d parked my car slanted on the side of the road to get out and take some photos and a lone truck came down the highway…it was someone I knew from Bend.
