For several years, Southern Utah was my favorite place to photograph.  Early one morning in 2001, I found myself fanning out across a huge hillside of slick rock at Butler Wash.  Nearing the top, I spotted a splash of color against the solid rock.  I had found my subject, but it was the wrong time of day.  I patiently waited in 90 degree heat for evening to return.  Re-hiking the steep 1/2 mile hillside, shortly after sun set I was able to capture 'Desert Rhythm.'
