DESCRIPTION:Thermals at Smith Rock \nThe morning sun rises on this jagged portion of Smith Rock in a dramatic display of light\, shadow\,\nangle\, line\, and form that make this park so scenic. Ravens loop in lazy circles above the peaks\,\ntaking advantage of the morning thermals.
Photo reference: Benjamin Hollis \n  \n  \n \nK A T H E R I N E  T A Y L O R\n  \n  \n \n  \nOil painter Katherine Taylor\, known for her use of dramatic chiaroscuro\nlighting and luminous glazing\, opens High Loft: The Majestic Reach Upward\,\nAugust 7\, during the Old Mill District First Friday Gallery Walk\, from 3-7pm.\nThis exhibit is about things that aim high\, both in the natural world and within\nour human aspirations for a better future. So\, Katherine chose to paint landscapes\nwith a high loft element…something in nature that reaches upward\n(some would say heavenward) and raises the mood of the collective. \n  \n  \n  \n 
Reach \n  \nThis painting features the iconic Middle Sister of the Central Oregon Cascades and exemplifies the\nbeauty of the landscape surrounding it. Trees appear to reach for the mountain in an effort to touch its majesty. \n  \n  \n 
San Miguel Mission \n  \nSan Miguel Mission is an actual church in Santa Fe\, New Mexico\, near where Katherine lived for many years.\nIt was built between 1610 and 1626 and is historically referred to as the oldest church in the continental United States.\nShe made it a part of her “High Loft” solo exhibition because there is no better symbol of human ideals than a church spire\,\nespecially on an old and long-standing mission chapel that is still in use today. \nPhoto reference: Rennett Stowe \n  \n  \n 
Obsidian Lift \n  \nRavens are all about duality\, that contrast between light and shadow\, wisdom and death. In folklore\,\nthey are considered shape-shifters\, symbolizing our desire to be imaginatively creative. In this painting\,\nI was inspired to depict a raven in one of their other known roles\,\nthat of a messenger between the living and the spiritual realm. \n  \n  \n 
Evening Loft \n  \n“There’s a reason people want to hang beautiful\nlandscapes on their walls—they depend on these\nimages to remind them to always reach for nature’s\nharmony\, balance\, and majesty.”\n  \nFrom a very large painting with huge clouds over the Cascades at sunset\,\nto a single white bird soaring upward\, these subjects glow with emotion. \n  \n \nHigh Loft \n___________________________________________________________ \n  \nJoin us from 3-7pm\, August 7. DESCRIPTION:Anticipation \n  \n  \n \nD E E  M c B R I D E – L E E\n  \n \n  \n  \nDee McBrien-Lee’s exhibit\, Body Language\, opens with a reception during the Old Mill District\nFirst Friday Gallery Walk\, September 4\, from 3-7pm. Focusing on abstracted figures and the way they\ninteract with each other\, each painting tells a story which is up to the viewer to interpret.\nIn many cases the title gives a clue. \n  \n  \n  \nBody Language—bright figures swirl and move with expressive color\n  \n  \nDee thrives on the challenge that creating something without boundaries or clear guidelines offers her imagination.\nShe considers herself first and foremost an abstract painter\, and thrives on the challenge that creating something\nwithout boundaries or clear guidelines offers her imagination. Most recently she has developed a\nseries combining the abstract elements she loves along with the incorporation of the human figure. \n  \n  \nThese casual figures incorporate texture and collage in Waiting On a Friend.\n  \n  \nBeginning with areas of color\, line and texture\, Dee seeks to discover her subjects in her paintings as she moves through her process.\nAcrylic paint carries the greatest weight with the addition of collage\, graphite\, oil sticks\, natural elements and more.\nGold leaf can also be found in some of the paintings. \n  \n  \nThere is a story here…Plus One emotes a certain mystique.\n  \n  \n  \nOnce the first few layers are down\, the discovery phase begins. For the works in this exhibit\, ‘Body Language’\,\nit was often a single body part or suggestion of attitude that became the inspiration for a particular figure.\nAdditional characters were found through periods of meditation or were added intentionally.\nDee prefers not to use set patterns as she works but allows every painting to speak to her as it develops a life and story all its own. \n  \n  \n  \nEnter a different world…Shades of Gauguin brings us to a languid spot where time slows down.\n  \n  \n‘Body Language’ is a compilation of Dee’s latest paintings featuring the human figure and the relationships between the characters.\nThe work moves from playful to contemplative to peaceful and mysterious. DESCRIPTION:As artists we work with color and so for October we wanted to have some fun!\nTo create an intentional\, unified installation with nine colors of the color wheel\, nine artists are painting on 18″ square cradled board using the color they drew as the dominant color.\nAny subject.
