Helen Brown and Vicki Shuck will exhibit NEW WORK at Tumalo Art Co. opening their show during the First Friday Gallery Walk this Friday from 5-9pm. The show will be up through June. Helen Brown’s translucent watercolors of natural themes and Vick Shuck’s painterly, figurative oils depicting every day moments work together based on their use of warm, glowing color.

For her award-winning watercolors Brown uses a pouring and masking method to achieve intricate detail and flowing color at the same time. Using creamy oils and working expressively, Shuck edits her brush-work to simplify complicated scenes of people or animals.

Helen’s Inspiration
“Looking at the paintings in my show, you can see why I choose to live in Central Oregon. I love trees and forests. Through seasons of changing light, I try to portray how the shapes and colors play off of each other, whether it is pine needles, leaves, pinecones, trunks or the spaces in between, it is one giant 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle that all comes together to make the whole.”
Helen just got back from a painting trip to France assisting Jacqueline Newbold’s art students. In this photo she is in the original Sennelier Art Supply store on the Quai Voltaire in Paris where artists have been buying their supplies since 1887. Says Helen,”It was fun to imagine Claude Monet walking up and down this spiral ‘escalier’ looking for just the right pigment or brush. I had a great time in France combining my love of painting with my background of French study.”

Vicki’s “Slice of Life”
“Taking figures out of their contexts and seeing the new relationships that are created between them is something I’m starting to explore in my paintings and drawings.”
Vicki committed several years ago to being a “Daily Painter” and is active on the popular website. She paints animals and people and can be commissioned to paint your precious memories of weddings, children and beloved pets. Her luminous images have heart and soul.
